My dear Classmates:
It is almost six years since Robin last came to me. Needless to say it is a great joy to have him again. All the letters are so interesting,, and so inspiring. When I read of the many accomplishments and activities of you all, it makes me feel very small and insignificant. My time seems to be almost entirely absorbed in the things of the home and children. Five years ago we built our home here on a hillside overlooking Deer Lake -- a beautiful little gem of a lake set in the hills. We have a glorious and unobstructed view of a stretch of mountains for twenty miles making a wonderful panorama. We have ten and a half acres of woods, ravines, and flat bottom land of the richest soil. We have recently started a bulb and cut flower farm to help pay the taxes, and add beauty to the place. Our name 'Garranard' is the Gaelic for 'high garden' - the planning and developing the place is a work of absorbing interest - My husband is a District Engineer for the Province of BC - and is very busy building roads. Our two boys have set their hearts on becoming engineers, too, and have been working the past year to earn their course at the University. Just last week they both started to the University of BC. Ted, the elder, had completed his first year, but Jamie is just entering 1st year. He started last year, but had a nasty accident, broke his arm at the shoulder socket and was in hospital for a number of weeks, so went to work when he was well enough. They have a 'flivver' and drive in every day - it is about 20 miles we are practically in the 'suburbs' of Vancouver as we are only a few miles away from the center of the city (about 9); so we are not hard to find if any of you come this way - we are really nearer New Westminster and have our 'phone in that exchange. Our oldest girl Kathleen goes to school at the Technical High School in New Westminster. Jean the next girl is at public school, and Margaretta at a beginner's private school at our post office. All the children are normal healthy happy children, and a great joy to us. My sister comes to visit us every two years at least, and has just left after spending the summer here. We have our recreation practically at our door. The children swim in the lake and have boating too. My husband and the boys take great delight in making trails through the ravine, in cutting wood, and working in the garden. When we have a very good tennis
