Nellie May Talley, my freshman roommate, had two outstanding enthusiasms besides her college - her family and her music. Although there was no time for piano lessons, her playing was a joy to all of us.
After college she returned to Terre Haute, where she studied architecture, not just as a dilettante occupation but for building itself. She had her own beautiful home built, completely planned down to the least details from her ideas. It was pictured in American Homes as the prize winning home of the year.
In Terre Haute she entered into many community activities. She travelled extensively, visiting many remote and strange places in all parts of the world. She worked in the organizations of the Centenary Methodist Church, the YWCA, the Visiting Nurses Association, and other charitable groups. To many of these, as to Goucher College, she left trust funds so that her influence will be felt for many years.
We extend our sympathy to her brother, her nieces and nephews to whom she was so devoted. - Edith Powell Pringle '03
