My dear 1903s,

Well the order comes to write- I thought I might just have the pleasure of looking at all these charming children that are growing up as fast and reading of how their mothers bring them up and at the same time help 'bring up' the town, too. I marvel and thought- I would be silent- You see I have just taught school- that's all. Nothing exciting in that. Ah yes and have managed to get entirely over my bad breakdown that kept me out of work for a year and a half. Now I can say with our auto suggestionist friends 'I am better this day than ever before'. But it was a warning - and I heed it, too - you may believe. Oh yes - since coming back I have taken to homekeeping too- not like my fortunate friend of Philadelphia - with a real house. Here in NY one is content with an apartment but me - an old time friend from the South - and I do really make it a home and do entertain guests for real visits- as well as weekends. So if any of you come see us in Brooklyn maybe you'll get a real Southern dinner too- Anyway we'd be glad to see you.

I haven't done any traveling these last four years - and no, I didn't join the rush to Europe this past summer. Instead I discovered the loveliest spot in Vermont right in the forest at the edge of a wonderfully clear mountain lake and there I intend to go again just for rest and that wonderfully stabilizing contact with the trees and the birds and the everything of nature. We schoolma'ams need it badly I think: well no more of me but best wishes to each of you and thank you for the pleasant hour these trips into your home have given me.

Sincerely,
Helen Davenport
