My dear Classmates,
Since Alice sent me Round Robin I have been waiting to hear from Carrie Fehr and then I heard from Esther Bixler - Now I have delayed because I have not felt well and have been in our Methodist Hospital in Phila. Since last week suffering from gallstones. Now I am told that I must have an operation tomorrow but I guess I will be all right as I am in pretty good condition otherwise.
I have no other paper here so I thought I should write any way. Last time I wrote we lived in Swarthmore, a delightful place in which to live. Many interesting people - a fine college life, fine old trees and Friends' traditions. Last spring we were moved to Norwood, about ten miles south of Phila. All the Penna RR trains from New York to Washington go through our town. It also is a fine suburban place and affords lots of opportunity for a minister.
Our home is different because all of the children are away. My youngest daughter Dorothy has just been appointed reporter for the Phila. Record since last July after attending Bryn Mawr College Graduate School in English last year. She lives in Phila. With her sister Ruth who is a social service worker.
I am interested in missions both home and foreign. I attended an Interdenominational Conference for three days in September and Phila. Branch meeting for three days the 1st week in October. I also belong to International League for Peace and Freedom which was very active in Swarthmore. I also belonged to the Woman's Club there but have not joined in Norwood.
I teach S.S. and attend many church meetings, dinners, suppers, etc. There are many people in our church who came from Pittsburgh and suburbs and I told them I knew their new mayor's wife so I have been sounding her praises.
I enjoyed Florence Carmine's trip to Africa. It gave me a different idea from the Mission Study Books.
I go to Baltimore once in a while to visit our Betty but have not visited the college since Reunion '34.
Wishing you all the happiness and joy of living, I am
Yours of 1903,
Hattie Taylor Channell
