of the Julia Rogers Library and printed by Michael Ahrenberg of Goucher
College. The typeface is Palatino. The title quotation is from
Memoirs of a Southern Woman "Within the Lines" by
Mary Jones Polk Branch. The ornamental initials on the cover and
on pages one and three are from The Woman in Battle: A Narrative
of the Exploits, Adventures, and Travels of Madame Loreta Jeneta Valazquez,
Otherwise Known as Lieutenant Harry T. Buford, Confederate States Army,
as are the illustrations on page nine and fourteen. Other illustrations
are as follows: page four is from The South: A Tour of its Battle-fields
