Jane Austen Collection

Use of the Collection

The Rare Book Room is located on the ground floor of the Julia Rogers Library and is currently open for a limited number of hours, at variable times. It is advisable to make an appointment in advance. The Special Collections Librarian can be reached by telephone at 410-337-6347.

Visitors are required to sign in and show identification. Materials should be requested by call number, and are used under supervision. No briefcases or bags of any kind are allowed in the reading room. Photocopying is usually not permitted to ensure preservation of the materials.

Most of the Jane Austen Collection is accessible through the Library's online catalog, which can be used by scholars at a distance with a personal computer and a modem. The Special Collections Librarian can provide you with instructions.

Because of the Library's substantial holdings in English history and literature, bibliography and women's studies the researcher may also make profitable use of the general and reference collections.
